DAYLIGHT ROBBERY IN ILORIN: Police caution residents against cash movement
Kwara State Police Command of the Nigeria Police Force has cautioned people in the state against moving about with huge cash to avoid the danger of armed robbery attack.
The command gave the caution as it confirmed an attack on a driver of a Sienna bus by armed robbers who allegedly carted away a large sum of money from the bus.
The incident occurred on Friday at the Post Office area in the heartland of Ilorin the state capital.
The command, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the driver of the bus sustained a gunshot injury in the palm and that he is currently receiving medical treatment.
The statement said the state police commissioner, Adekimi Ojo, has ordered a discreet investigation of the incident and has increased police visibility patrols in the town.

It said that the police boss, while encouraging residents on the use of online transaction, also advised that whenever cash movement may be found unavoidable the services of trusted bank escorts should be engaged.
The statement reads: “The Kwara State Police Command confirms an armed robbery incident that occurred around 11:30 hours today, 12th December 2025, along the Post Office road, Ilorin, where a driver of a Sienna vehicle was attacked by armed men, leaving the driver with a gunshot injury on his palm and an undisclosed amount of money carted away. He is currently receiving medical treatment.
“The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, psc, mnips, has ordered discreet investigations into the incident and has further strengthened security across the Ilorin metropolis with enhanced deployments and increased police visibility patrols to reassure residents.
“The CP further advised residents in the state to avoid carrying large sums of cash; he encouraged the use of online transactions whenever possible. In cases where cash movement is unavoidable, he advised using trusted bank escort services.
“Report suspicious movements or persons around banks or financial locations immediately.”
