Police arrest two suspects, rescue kidnap victim in Omu-Aran forest

The Nigeria Police Force, Kwara State Command, has said that it rescued one Haruna Ahamadu unhurt from a kidnapper’s den in Omu-Aran forest, Irepodun local government area of the state.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Ilorin, stated that the rescue operation followed credible intelligence that led to a joint action by police operatives and local vigilante members.

According to the statement, two suspects, identified as Ayisa Ibrahim, a female, and Yakubu Hassan, a male, have been arrested in connection with the abduction, while a manhunt has been launched for other fleeing members of the gang.

“The Kwara State Police Command has recorded yet another operational success in its sustained onslaught against criminal elements in the state.

“Acting on credible intelligence, a combined team of police operatives and vigilante group rescued one Haruna Ahamadu unhurt from a kidnappers’ den in the Omu-Aran forest.

“Two suspects, Ayisa Ibrahim (female) and Yakubu Hassan (male), are currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang,” the statement reads in part.

Ejire-Adeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, commended the professionalism and dedication of the officers who participated in the operation, assuring the public that the Command remains resolute in its commitment to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.

“The Commissioner of Police commended the officers for their dedication and assured members of the public that the Command remains fully committed to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of all residents,” the statement added.

The CP, according to the release, also appreciated the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, whose policing vision, he said, continues to enhance operational efficiency and proactive crime-fighting efforts nationwide.

Ejire-Adeyemi urged residents to continue to provide timely and useful information that could assist security agencies in tracking criminal elements, warning that there would be no hiding place for kidnappers and bandits in any part of the state.

The latest rescue operation adds to a string of recent breakthroughs recorded by security operatives in Kwara amid rising concerns over abductions in parts of the state.

Barely two days ago, the Army handed over 23 rescued kidnapped victims from the Kwara-Kogi border forests to the state governor, AbdulrRahman AbdulRazaq, following coordinated raids on criminal hideouts in the state.
