Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete is set to become the center of a high-level intellectual discourse as it prepares to host one of Nigeria’s most distinguished communication scholars, Professor Umaru A. Pate.

The lecture comes at a time when the digital landscape in Nigeria is facing unprecedented challenges. Titled “The Post-Truth Paradigm in the Global South: A Critical Appraisal of Media Trust and Credibility amidst Bot-Driven Narratives and Generative AI Challenges in Nigeria,” the session aims to tackle the growing influence of artificial intelligence and automated “bots” in shaping—and often distorting—public opinion.
Professor Pate, the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Kashere, is a household name in media circles. His expertise in media ethics and development communication is expected to provide critical solutions for media professionals and students struggling to maintain credibility in an era of “alternative facts.”
The event, which kicks off at 11:00 a.m. at the Mini Convocation Arena, reflects the strategic vision of the University’s leadership.
Under the Vice-Chancellor, Shaykh Luqman Jimoh, KWASU has intensified its efforts to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world global challenges. This drive is being championed within the Faculty of ICT by the Dean, Prof. Isiaka Zubair Aliagan, who has positioned the faculty as a hub where technology and society intersect.
“The choice of Professor Pate underscores our deliberate effort to engage globally relevant scholars whose work shapes both academic thought and professional practice,” the University noted.
As Kwara State continues to grow as a tech and academic hub, the conversation around AI and media trust is more relevant than ever. For local journalists, students, and tech enthusiasts, this lecture offers a rare opportunity to learn from a master of the craft.
With anticipation building across the state, the 2nd ICT Lecture Series is expected to further cement KWASU’s reputation as a leader in community-oriented scholarship and research in Nigeria.
