Three officers killed as gunmen attack PMF base in Tenebo
In a daring early-morning raid that has sent shockwaves through Kaiama local government area, gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked a Police Mobile Force (PMF) base in the Tenebo community, leaving three officers dead and two others wounded.
The assault occurred at approximately 2:00 am on Saturday. Residents reported being jolted awake by the sound of heavy gunfire as the attackers, who reportedly arrived in large numbers on motorcycles, attempted to breach the town through the tactical base.
Local witnesses described a chaotic scene that lasted for several hours as security personnel fought to repel the invaders.
“They came in large numbers and tried to enter the town but were resisted by the security,” said Mr. Mohammed Abdul, a resident of the area. “At the end of the gun duel, three officers were killed and two were injured. The bandits left thereafter, but nobody was kidnapped.”

Another resident, Mr. Halidu Umar, noted that the proximity of the attack to Kaiama town—just four kilometers away—has left the community in a state of high anxiety. He linked the frequency of such raids to the nearby National Park, which serves as a known hideout for criminal elements.
“This follows a similar pattern where they attack and then retreat back into the forest,” Umar added.
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the tragic loss of life during a briefing on Saturday.
“Yes, it’s true and we lost three gallant officers in the attack with two injured,” the CP stated. He further noted that the injured officers are currently responding to treatment, though no arrests have yet been made in connection with the raid.
This latest incident highlights a worrying trend of escalating violence in the suburbs of Kaiama. The Tenebo attack is the third major security breach in the axis in recent weeks.
Last month, gunmen overran a joint security outpost in the neighboring Kemanji community. That encounter claimed the lives of three soldiers and two vigilantes, with the attackers successfully carting away an army gun truck.
Earlier, five members of a local forest guard were killed when bandits stormed their facility, setting operational vehicles and buildings ablaze in Nuku Community.
As of the time of this report, security agencies have reportedly increased patrols along the Kaiama-Tenebo axis, though the dense forest terrain continues to pose a significant challenge to neutralizing the threat.
